One of the biggest changes to UK data privacy laws comes into effect on 25 May 2018. The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a positive step towards individuals having more control over how their data is used. The changes will also help you better protect your personal data in all aspects of your life.

We are pleased to advise you that we are very much focused on the way that we manage your data and wish to be transparent to you in order to protect you.

As a firm offering tax refund/tax return services we are bound by the Money Laundering Regulations 2017 in respect of storing your personal data. Under these Regulations we are legally obliged to hold proof of your identification for five years after our relationship ends.

We also need to hold additional data in order to perform tax refund/tax return services on your behalf, and to communicate with HMRC on your behalf where appropriate. We are obliged to retain Tax Return working papers for the current year plus six further years.

Finally, your data is held in our own firm’s customer relationship management (CRM) system to enable us to maintain accurate information about you; to follow up any enquiry you make with us about our services; to liaise with you about the service we are providing to you; and also to write and remind you when it’s time to make a repeat tax refund claim. Data held is backed up to secure servers and to a physically secure location.

We will not pass your data to any third parties, other than at your specific written request, such as for income reference purposes.

Data processing starts as soon as we take your personal details, e.g. your name and address. Our computer systems are password protected and we have fire walls in place against computer hacking. In addition your details are kept in files in locked offices and all confidential waste is shredded or taken by a GDPR compliant specialist firm that deals in confidential waste.
